What to Expect from a 10-Week Dental Assistant Training Program

Based in St. Petersburg, FL, their certified program is designed to promote basic, entry-level dental assisting skills and prepare you for a career in the dental field. Is the program accredited? Yes! The Dental Assisting Institute is accredited by the Florida Board of Dentistry and has been for over 20 years.
How long is the program? The program is 10 weeks long. You must complete 80 hours of lecture and lab, then a 40-hour practicum in a local dental office. The clinical portion of the class is held 8 hours per week on either Tuesday/Thursday evenings, Friday, or Saturday.
What are the requirements for admission? To be eligible for admission, you must have a high school diploma or equivalent. If you don't have a high school diploma or GED, you may be eligible to enroll if you have a valid medical certification (CNA, LPN). A high school student may join the program with parental or guardian permission and a copy of their most recent high school transcript.
What can I expect during the program? During this program, each student will take five online multiple-choice tests covering numerous topics in their field of study and complete weekly homework and readings. In addition, each student is required to do a 40-hour practicum in a local dental office to learn the interworking of a dental office firsthand.
Will you help me find employment? We will supply you with a list of esteemed dentists that have participated in our program over the previous 20 years. It will be your responsibility to secure an internship.
What do I need to bring to class?
- PPE must always be worn during clinical settings. This includes gloves, masks, protective eyewear, and gowns. The school will supply PPE for a one-time fee of $15.
- You must bring your latest version of the Modern Dental Assisting Book and Workbook every day to class. This can be purchased from the school for $160.
