What does a dental radiographer do?

Dental radiographers are trained to use tools such as X-rays to assist dentists to evaluate patients and provide the proper treatment plan. They work with dental equipment to perform periapical and panoramic X-rays and are educated on radiography practice and radiation biology. Sometimes, a dental radiographer works chairside with the dentist to perform exams on patients to find tooth decay or gum diseaseor other conditions, then will present a treatment plan to each patient as diagnosed by the dentist. Also, dental assistants who are certified to take radiographs work side by side with a licensed dentist to assist in performing chairside dental procedures Finally, a dental radiographer may also work in other dental specialties such as periodontics, pediatrics, endodontics, oral surgery, or prosthodontics.

What requirements does a dental radiographer need to complete?

A dental radiographer must be trained as a dental assistant, and completed on-the-job training for at lead three months. After completing this training, a dental radiographer must attend a Florida Board approved certified class and pass a written and practical exam. After that, a dental radiographer will work in a dental office and should continue their education by obtaining a Florida EFDA certification.

What are the salary range and job outlook for a dental radiographer?

Employment opportunities in the dental field are currently on the rise, so dental radiographers have a great job outlook right now. The average salary range for dental radiologists is between $36,500 and $60,000.
