What Certifications Can You Obtain as a Dental Assistant

There are several certifications that you can obtain as a Florida dental assistant. Whether you're looking to specialize in a particular area or just want to add some extra skills to your resume, these certifications are worth checking out. Learn more about these exciting opportunities and how you can obtain them!

Dental X-Ray Certification

Dental assistants who want to specialize in dental radiology can take this certification course. This course will teach you how to take x-rays, process images, and interpret radiographs. Dental assistants who are certified in dental radiology can work in both private practice and public health settings. The Dental Assisting Institute offers a blended dental radiology certification course with online materials and a hands-on clinical portion that you can take in just one day. You must have been formally trained by a licensed dentist for a minimum of three months before signing up.

EFDA Certification

Are you ready to heighten your skills and become an Expanded Function Dental Assistant (EFDA)? This certification is for dental assistants who have been formally trained by a licensed dentist for a minimum of three months. The Dental Assisting Institute offers a one-day course with an online and in-person clinical portion that will allow you to take the examination and receive your certification. This certificate is valid for four years and is recognized by the American Dental Association.

It is important to note that you can take a combination course that offers BOTH X-Ray and EFDA certifications in one day. This saves money and is a more convenient way to get both certifications.

CPR Certification

Another great certification you can acquire is your CPR Certification. Dental assistants who are certified in CPR can work in a variety of settings, including private practices, hospitals, and clinics. The Dental Assisting Institute offers BOTH CPR initial and recertification courses that cover everything you need to know to perform CPR correctly, as well as use an automated external defibrillator (AED). You will learn how to properly perform CPR on infants, children, and adults. Once you complete the course, you will receive a 2-year American Heart Association certification in Healthcare Provider CPR and AED training.

By taking advantage of these certification opportunities, you can set yourself apart from other dental assistants. These credentials will show potential employers that you are a well-rounded and knowledgeable dental professional. If you are interested in obtaining either of these certifications, please contact the Dental Assisting Institute today! We would be happy to help you get started on your career path.
